The Brighton Festival, during May each year, is the largest event of its kind in England, the annual showcase extravaganza for the arts in Brighton, for theatre, music, dance, performance, books, debate and family shows. There are three weeks of glorious entertainment when parks, churches, arts centres and even schools play host to wonderful performances of all descriptions.
There's also Street Arts, part of the festival, when Brighton attracts a wide range and number of street arts performers from around the world, whose performances range from comedy and live music to dance and circus. In fact, it's the biggest celebration of street arts in the UK.
The Children's Parade is one the festival's major spectacles, when a carnival parade of over 3000 children parades through the streets of Brighton.
There's even a special night train service back to London for the duration of the festival.

The highlight of the weekend is always the parade and the 2007 parade was the biggest and most colourful to date. This is real carnival with wonderful floats and walking tableaux representing nearly every well know musical. It's all so colourful, exuberant, outrageous, fun, invigorating, you name it; it's an incredible experience to witness.
The 2007 Winter Pride festival in November features over 70 great events across town; everything from casino nights to speed dating, live music to cabaret nights, comedy and club nights. Over 35 venues are involved so there's something and somewhere for everyone.

The festival fringe also included the English debut of the Udderbelly, the huge upside-down cow of a venue located on the Old Steine, and host to cabaret, music, theatre, comedy and kids events.
Then there's Fringe City, a celebration of everything in the Fringe, from music to poetry, from drama to dance, and everything in between. It takes place in Jubilee Square, with opportunities for every show participating in the Fringe to come along and show the public exactly why they should buy tickets to their show.
In 2007, there were five stages with performances going on throughout the afternoon, not to mention the BBC Blue Bus, and the First Direct magic bus, which showed video previews of Fringe events.
