Montpellier is described as having a continental flavour, with its café culture, chic bars and bistros like Montpellier Wine Bar. Specialist boutiques, gift shops and established antique dealers offer everything you need for a beautiful life, from your wardrobe to your kitchen cupboards.

On Regent Street you can find some great independent fashion shops such as Trapeze and the well-known Monty Smiths. Also home to the Everyman Theatre, as well as cafés, and delicatessens such eg The Fine Cheese Company.

The lower end of the High Street has a variety of shops such as pawnbrokers, betting shops, tattoo parlours and head shops. Scaramouch on Henrietta Street also does body piercing. Moss Books is good for a second-hand read. Chemical Records on St George's Street is an independent vinyl shop with decks in the shop. You can also find Asian and vegetarian restaurants in this area, as well as an oriental supermarket packed with unusual produce.

Festivals, You name it - Cheltenham has it: a folk festival, a jazz festival, a science festival, a cricket festival, a literature festival, an international music festival as well as fringe events supporting each of them. Most of the events in all the festivals take place at the town hall and The Everyman. Catch the street entertainment in the parks and gardens around the city.

Lots of the basements of the old Regency buildings across town having been converted into bars and clubs, such as the 21 club on Regent Street, or The Bongo Bar, Subtone and The Prom Club on the Promenade. These night-spots have a young and lively atmosphere.

Blow the cobwebs away. The Cotswolds an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with enchanting villages and stunning scenery. Bourton on the Water, Stow on the Wold and Winchcombe come highly recommended.
